MERAL: Ajab Gazab: Maadko got married to get good rain.

GARHWA/ MERAL: It is common to have yagya and havan to bring rain, but you will also be shocked to hear the marriage of frogs to please the god Indra. Something similar happened in Meral of Garhwa. In order to please Indra Dev here, the villagers got two frogs married according to the custom.

Discharging old traditions in Bana village of Meral block, a procession was taken out for the marriage of frogs and frogs for good rains. This procession started from Bana market and reached Devi Mandap Sati Asthan where according to the earlier tradition, frog and girl were married. The marriage was solemnized with drums and recitation of Vedic mantras. Songs from door worship to marriage were being sung by a large number of women present.

This old tradition is followed among the thousands of men and women present. In this regard, Panchayat head Vijay Singh told that this tradition was started by Babu Maheshwarnath Singh, the Zamindar of Bana village. He told that it is said by the elders that there was a severe famine in the area in 1966 AD.

In 1967 AD, the marriage of Frog and Mariki was done by Babu Maheshwarnath Singh near Sati Asthan for good rain and harvest in the area. Since then this tradition has been followed continuously by the villagers. As a result of which there is no effect of famine in Bana village and its surrounding villages. At the same time, with good rain, the crop is also good.

In the marriage program, a large number of women and men including former head Urmila Devi Meera Devi Saraswati Devi Durga Kunwar Chandramukhi Devi Pooja Devi Bhukli Devi Mukhiya Vijay Singh Vidyarthi Kumar Shivsagar Paswan Bhola Paswan Nandu Thakur Ashok Das Santosh Kumar Rishi Sikandar Paswan Mohan Sah Aklu Ram attended the procession.
