GARHWA: Garhwa Police Arrests Another Sand Mafia.

Garhwa: Giving information about this, Garhwa SP Anjani Kumar Jha said that the police of Garhwa police station has arrested a person named Brahm Dev Prasad from Ranchi. After the strict stand of the NGT, the district administration and police have swung into action against illegal sand trade in the district. Vehicles excavating sand from rivers are being caught across the district. An FIR is being registered against the sand traders and illegal immigrants.

The silence of the police administration and the mining department against the illegal extraction of sand from all other rivers, including the Koel and Danar rivers of the district, encouraged the sand traders. In such a situation, the NGT's action was taken against the continuous exploitation by them along the rivers without fear. The action of the administration, bound to act by orders, has made the traders sleepless. Many big illegal businessmen have gone underground for fear of arrest.

Here the next hearing of the NGT in this matter is scheduled on May 10. Till then, the State Level Joint Committee has to be constituted and action taken report to be submitted to the NGT within a month to investigate and take action on the environmental damage caused by illegal quarrying. When asked in this regard, Superintendent of Police Anjani Kumar Jha said that he has been made a member of the Joint Committee by the NGT. The Joint Committee of the State Pollution Control Board, the nodal agency of the Joint Committee, will be formed as per the directions for its meeting.
